Polaris is a Washington, DC based nonprofit organization that uses data-driven strategies to prevent human trafficking. Their National Human Trafficking Hotline and the BeFree Textline have allowed them to respond to over 31,000 instances of human trafficking in the US.

The organization had been steadily adding vendors and contracts to support its growth. But without a central procurement function, and a new set of compliance requirements tied to procurements made with federal funding, Polaris needed help in evaluating and improving their procurement operations. 

 

Polaris turned to Vendor Centric for help in getting compliant with the new regulations while also establishing the underlying policies, procedures and systems to maintain efficient and compliant procurement activities going forward.

Back in 2011, Tom Rogers wrote Rethinking Vendors because he saw a big problem in the marketplace.  Namely, organizations were wasting a lot of money and taking on unnecessary risks when when they viewed - and treated - their vendors as costs rather than important (and sometimes strategic) partners and resources.
